Architect: George White Elementary Needs $10.6 Mil to Modernize

With all of Capistrano Unified looking at $822 million in renovations, here's George White Elementary's contribution to that tab.

George White Elementary School needs $10.6 million in upgrades and renovations, according to a Capistrano Unified School District architect.

The report from WLC Architects of Rancho Cucamonga was created in 2009 and was recently updated with 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

The updated numbers also include $774,000 to purchase new technology for students.

George White is one of six schools with potentially serious structural issues that could present a danger. Of the $10.6 million George White needs, $4 million would be targeted toward replacing half of the Laguna Niguel-based school’s portable classrooms with permanent buildings. Another $1 million would be spent on routine repairs and maintenance the district has deferred over the last few years, including roofing, heating and floor covering.

Below is an easier-to-read legend for the photo above. New construction, which originally included replacing all the portables, is in peach, remodels in yellow.
