If you like to fish and you like halibut, Dana Point should be on your bucketlist.
This YouTube video might come in handy as you prepare for the Dana Wharf's Fifth Annual Halibut Derby coming up in November.
In May, the winner of The largest halibut caught during the six month long derby was a 43-pound, 10-ounce fish by Dana Point resident, Peggy Stein. She received a check in the amount of $2,957.50.
This event was the fish-off for the top 25 anglers and it was a free trip for the anglers who caught the 25 largest halibut over the derby. The angler who catches the largest halibut on the fish-off receives the other half of the jackpot money.
This was by far the most popular Halibut Derby in Dana Wharf’s history. More than 100 halibut were caught in the derby, securing Dana Wharf’s continued billing as the top halibut landing in Southern California, said Donna Kalez, general manager of Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching.
