Diary of a Wolverine: Volleyball Battles Back to Finish Third in League

Aliso Niguel High volleyball player Greg Williams shares his journal entry for the week ending May 5.

Hey Everyone!

Life has been crazy and I haven’t found the time to get a timely diary out for all of you! So here is the latest:

We’ve righted the ship for Aliso Niguel boys volleyball. After starting league o-2, we’ve battled back to 4-3, and have clinched third place in our league and a CIF Southern Section playoff berth!!!

It wasn’t easy. Last Thursday we played Capo away for their Senior Night. We were down, 0-2, and had our backs against the wall. The craziest part was that the team never thought we would actually lose, and we ended up coming back to win in five games, 3-2.

Yesterday was our Senior Night against San Juan Hills High School. Senior Night is a tradition for the last home game for most sports teams. During senior nights, seniors are recognized for what they’ve contributed to the program, and get the opportunity to be celebrated during their final home game. It was also this year’s Cinco de Mayo game. Even though we played the match two days before Cinco de Mayo, the Spanish department still brought out tons of fans for the celebration. San Juan had no idea what hit them, as we crushed them, 3-0.

Finally, I’ve yet to make a college decision! The deadline to submit a deposit to enroll was May 2, and I ended up dropping two deposits, one at UCI and the other at USC. While I’d probably rather go to USC, it’s very very expensive. As of right now, my family can’t afford it, but we’re waiting on a few scholarships, and that’s why we submitted the deposit. It bought us time to make the decision.

I took my first AP test today (calculus)! That’s one down and three to go. In one week I will probably be done with volleyball and APs, and I will truly be able to enjoy the rest of my senior year.

That said, I should probably get studying. Have a great week!

Greg
