Happy Memorial Day! Thank a Vet for your property rights.

Thank a Vet for your property rights.
Have you ever seen the email that goes around this time of year which says,
It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. - And More!

I would add that you can thank a vet for your property rights. This time of year I think of my uncle Donald Hollenbeck who received a silver star posthumously. He died on a bridge in Germany in the Battle of the Bulge, holding back a German tank column. Had the heroes of WWII failed in their task, that evil regime which took property rights away from the Jews for no reason, before taking life itself, might not have been stopped.

Apparently the definition of property rights is debated as far as how much is “personal” right and how much the “community” has to say about your rights. One thing seems to be certain: “property rights spring from society and are supported by what the society is willing to acknowledge, defend and enforce.” Ultimately our veterans defend ALL of our rights.

Our Biblical Law heritage has a strong property rights basis as well. Under Mosaic Law, illegally moving a property line to steal land was punishable by death. Also on the Day of Jubilee property that had been sold was returned to the family clan.

We enjoy so much in our country and our area here in Orange County. Laguna Niguel and Dana Point are wonderful places to live. So when you are on your way to the BBQ or the beach or just basking in “the private quiet enjoyment” of your home, whether owned or rented, please stop and think about our history and the blessings of private property.

Thank a vet and remember those who are not here to thank. While you are at it thank those in law enforcement as well for they swear to uphold our constitution and our way of life as well.
