The Toll Roads Partners with Local Food Banks to Help Those in Need

Annual holiday drive now through Nov. 30 supports Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

For the second year in a row, The Toll Roads are collecting non-perishable food items now through Nov. 30 to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County. The annual holiday giving drive will help feed thousands of people, furthering the food bank’s mission to end hunger throughout the county.

"We are pleased to support the food bank again this year," said Laguna Niguel city councilmember and member of the San Joaquin Hills Transportation Corridor Agency’s board of directors. "Laguna Niguel residents are frequent users of the 73 Toll Road and the toll plazas are an easy place for them to donate. We believe it’s a great opportunity to help those in need."

Donations are being accepted in the cash-payment lanes of all mainline toll plazas on the 73, 133, 241 and 261 Toll Roads and inside the Irvine (125 Pacifica) and San Clemente (209 Avenida Del Mar) service centers.

Non-perishables such as peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, pasta, cereal and canned beans, fruits and vegetables are items the food bank needs most this year.

The Second Harvest Food Bank distributes food to 470 member charities across the county including shelters, senior centers, rehabilitation centers, homes for abused women and children and many other emergency assistance organizations. The food bank feeds about 240,000 individuals per month.

"We are happy to help toll road drivers support the food bank again this year,” said Tom Margro, chief executive officer at The Toll Roads in a press release. "Canned food is an easy, inexpensive way to provide a meal to those who genuinely need one.  Dropping off a few cans to a toll attendant is a simple way to help."
