The City of Laguna Niguel vs. Local Marijuana Dispensary

Suite A, Laguna Niguel's only marijuana clinic, will be sued by the city.

and may not be the only pharmacies in Laguna Niguel where patients can go to have their prescriptions filled. A clinic known as Suite A operates at the corner of Crown Valley Parkway and Niguel Road and provides a place for those with a medicinal marijuana license to fill their prescription.

The medicinal clinic has been operating at its current location for almost two and a half years, according to a store employee who wishes to be addressed as “Budtender Jamie." Budtender is the official title of a person who handles the marijuana when filling prescriptions.

Recently, the after passage of a city ordinance banning medical marijuana clinics.

"l is aware of the marijuana dispensary. We consider the dispensary to be operating illegally in violation of our zoning code and have initiated litigation to close it,” said City Manager, Tim Casey.

However, Suite A tells a very different story.

“We have a license to be here. The city should not be able to tell us that we can operate here and then change their minds,” said Budtender Jamie. “We are open to a discussion with the city.”

The to ban medical marijuana dispensaries permanently in Laguna Niguel. The ordinance requires all zoning districts within the city limits to prohibit dispensaries. This permanent ban followed two temporary bans that were partially in response to a 2008 that occurred at a dispensary on Forbes Road. That dispensary closed last year.

Police raided the medical marijuana clinic last year on Nov. 15, according to Jamie.

“They took everything out of our store including the marijuana, our patient list and operation records. The authorities had search warrants for my house, as well as the residences of four other workers,” said Jamie. “They have one year from the day of the raid to file charges if any illegal activities were taking place. To this day no charges have been filed.”

The matter of Suite A vs. the city of Laguna Niguel is still pending litigation.

Really" the only people I have seen go in are young healthy kids, well appenertly they feel the need to cloud their minds, this law was past for cancer patients and now has just become a place to score dope, then hit the liquor store to compleat their day, lesson learned we can't legalize drugs.

I strongly disagree with you Tom. I have seen people of all ages and of social-economical class go in there. They are not bothering anyone. They provide a product that is by far healthier than most prescription medicines used for. i*e*: insomnia, anxiety, stress, depression. As well as people with debilitating diseases that find some comfort in being able to use Medical Cannabis effectively to help with appetite in addition to getting their minds off their state of pain & suffering. BTW: more people have been KILLED by people under the influence of a legal drug called ALCOHOL. How many times have you read in the newspaper, news, or Internet, where someone was KILLED or Severely injured by someone under the influence of Marijuana ONLY???

I've seen a TON of comments about this on my Facebook, and 99% of them are 15 and 16 year-olds saying "what r we gonna do without the clinic =(". Good riddance. You can argue all you want about how much more dangerous alcohol and cigarettes are, and guess what? You're right! To your health. Marijuana is dangerous to SOCIETY. The kids who get hooked on it right now have a much lower chance of actually contributing to society when they "grow up." Pot has its benefits, but when a dispensary is handing this stuff out to kids, we need to stop it. That's BS.

your argument that these dispensaries are detrimental to society because they give young kids access to marijuana is ignorant and false. to obtain a medical marijuana license one must see a doctor and gain a prescription. most doctor's won't even see patients under the age of 21 no less write them prescriptions. 15 and 16 year kids can't even gain access to these clinics. the dispensaries aren't "handing out" marijuana to kids they are supplying medical patients who seek an alternative to pills with a healthy way to medicate. do your research before making claims and stop using facebook as a reliable source for information.

A marijuana clinic that sells dope to juveniles is no different than a liquor store that sells alcohol to minors. They put the community in danger of being killed or injured by a person high on dope. Lest we forget Mara Steves, killed while trying to rescue a lost dog, by a guy loaded on numerous drugs. If they want to dispense drugs go to the City of Laguna where they might find a more friendly environment.

For those of you who think cannabis is a "Dangerous Drug," maybe you should see how it’s made. And then take a look at how one of the many “lovely” pharmaceutical DRUGS you have piled up in your medicine cabinets are made, then tell me which one is more dangerous. Cannabis, Marijuana, Weed, Herb, Ganja is produced no different than your favorite piece of fruit. I have been a LN resident for almost 10 years now; I have been a Medical Marijuana patient for two years. I’ve seen the both sides of Cannabis, good and bad. And to make a quiet, “fine citizen” drive 20 - 30 miles to get medication is absolutely insane. Why send one of your own to a city where the words dangerous and scary are itched in the sidewalks. Last time I checked we live in a high class community, and we should be able to utilize whatever goods we want in that manner. Oh one more thing… why are all the council members white? Bunch of Ignorant Rich Nazis in leather chairs.
