City Council to Discuss Budget Tonight

Officials will also address a new food waste recycling program, the annual traffic review and authorize the purchase of furniture at the 7 p.m. meeting.

Tonight's City Council meeting will address a number of items at City Hall, 27801 La Paz Road, at 7 p.m., ranging from the annual budget to the purchase of up to $850,000 in office furniture. 

  • The city will approve an amendment to the Pilot Commercial Food Waste Diversion Grant Program. This program diverts food waste to composting facilities for gardening use, rather than to the city dump.
  • The council will conduct its annual review of traffic controls and suggested routes to schools and direct police services to continue their enforcement efforts in and around the schools.
  • There will be a pre-authorization for the resolution commending the 2010 Laguna Niguel citizen of the year.  This award will be presented at the city's annual volunteer appreciation dinner June 11.
  • The old City Hall furniture will be donated to the and the Laguna Niguel Historical Society.  Other pieces will be liquidated by Green Cube at no cost to the city. The city manager will be authorized to purchase furniture for the new City Hall at a cost not to exceed $850,000.
  • The city manager will present the new budget. The budget talks will continue at a workshop June 20.
  • The City Council will approve the street address of the new City Hall and select a new street name sign to be installed on the traffic signal at Crown Valley Parkway and Hillhurst Drive.
