Woman Pleads Guilty, Gets Six Months in Dana Point Lingerie Store Torching

A 43-year-old woman pleaded guilty today, Tuesday, to trying to set fire at a Dana Point lingerie store by torching gifts bought there by an ex-boyfriend and was immediately sentenced to six months in jail.

Jennifer Renee Colwell of Dana Point pleaded guilty to recklessly causing a fire of a structure, a felony. A felony charge of arson of property was dismissed. Colwell will be on five years of formal probation when she is released.

An arrest warrant was issued for Colwell in June when she failed to show up for a court date. She was arrested on June 21 and has been behind bars since then, according to jail records.

At about 12:30 a.m. last Oct. 2, a sheriff's deputy witnessed the attempted arson at Intimate Obsessions, 34183 Pacific Coast Highway, according to sheriff's officials.

Colwell put items her ex-boyfriend bought for her at the store into a pillowcase, soaked it with gas and then set it ablaze and hurled it at the business because she was distraught over the failed relationship, according to sheriff's officials.
