Alleged Starbucks Gas Mask Robber Lives in Laguna Niguel

Kyle Kamal Starner, 20, was arrested Friday night in connection with the heist on Golden Lantern the same morning.

The man who allegedly wore a gas mask while robbing a Starbucks last week was identified Monday as Kyle Kamal Starner of Laguna Niguel.

He was allegedly walking around Laguna while "extremely intoxicated," Amormino said. And "the officer noticed he was in possession of a gas mask when he stopped him."

Because Starner was already on probation for burglary and possession of stolen property, he is subject to search and seizure, and deputies searched his Laguna Niguel home Friday night, Amormino said.

There, they found a handgun and clothing matching the Swirlz robbery description, Amormino said.

Starner was arrested on suspicion of robbing the Starbucks and, two weeks earlier, robbing a Swirlz frozen yogurt shop in the same plaza.

He remains in custody, Amormino said.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said the items found in Starner's home matched descriptions from the Starbucks robbery. They are believed to be from the Swirlz heist, authorities said.

His FB page is down now, but I had a chance to look at it before it was taken down, thanks to Charles. He posted a comment glorifying criminal life last Friday, either before or after the robbery; he also posted a comment back in November referencing gas masks. In between were profanity-laden posts about drug use and being high on cocaine. His FB page was a clear indication that he is very troubled. My family frequents the shops he robbed at gunpoint. I hope he stays behind bars for a long, long time.
