Laguna Niguel House Fire Under Control: 2 Pets Rescued, 1 Died

A bearded dragon and a golden retriever were rescued from a house fire off Niguel Road Monday afternoon. A terrier wasn't so lucky.

A fire "heavily damaged" a two-story home on Las Naranjas in Laguna Niguel Monday afternoon, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi said.

A family of five lives in the home on the 24000 block of Las Naranjas, the spokesman said. Kids were away at school and no one was found inside, he said.

A 15-year-old golden retriever and a bearded dragon were rescued from the fire. A neighbor brought the dog to safety and firefighters found the lizard and brought it out, Concialdi said.

A terrier died in the fire, he said.

Firefighters had the burning building under control at 1:31 p.m., Concialdi said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, the captain said.
