The Orange County Fire Authority rescued an elderly man from a remote Laguna Niguel area.

An elderly man had to be rescued from a remote area in Laguna Niguel today after he became weak and winded while hiking.

The Orange County Fire Authority dispatched its helicopter for a rescue shortly after 4 p.m. near Pacific Island Drive and Club Drive. However, firefighters and paramedics were able to reach him on foot and drive him to a nearby hospital for observation, said Orange County Fire Authority Captain Marc Stone.

"We ended up waving off the helicopter," Stone said. "We didn't need it."
