Deputy Injured in Crash During Pursuit on Alicia Parkway

An Orange County sheriff's deputy and a 60-year-old man were hospitalized with minor injuries following a crash on Alicia Parkway during a pursuit.

An Orange County sheriff's deputy and a 60-year-old man suffered minor injuries today in a crash during an apparent pursuit in Laguna Hills.

The crash on Alicia Parkway near Hon Avenue occurred just before noon, near the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway off-ramp, Orange County sheriff's Lt. Joe Balicki said.

"One of our units was involved in a (collision). It may or may not be because of a pursuit," Balicki said.

According to the Orange County Register, the patrol car was from Lake Forest.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash did not appear to have been involved in the pursuit, Balicki said, adding that a suspect was in custody.

The deputy suffered a wrist injury and was taken to a hospital, Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Jon Muir said. The 60-year-old man in the other car involved in the crash -- a Volkswagen Jetta -- suffered shoulder and neck injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Muir said.

Both men were in good condition, Muir added.

The Jetta's engine block was thrown about 40 feet in the crash, Muir said.

I hit enter in the comment and it posted - I wasn't done! Why would it post if you don't clickRead More "post comment"?! I read one story and the scrunched up left placement gave me a headache. The ad column on the right is way too big - too wide. If they made that smaller, swapped the "board" column and the news (so the news was in the middle), I think it would be easier to read.

With the ad block on the right and the boards info in the middle, it feels like the news part isRead More scrunched too far to the left.
