Get Up and Go: Gingerbread Houses, Boat Parades and More to Do This Weekend

With Christmas just around the corner, there is plenty to do with the family in and around Laguna Niguel.

Nightly through Dec. 31, Blount Family Christmas Light Show at 5 p.m.  Come out and enjoy one of the largest home light shows in Orange County. This free event features more than 100,000 LED Christmas lights choreographed to dance to 18 festive songs. Free apple cider and brownies are offered. The home is open for tours nightly to view the giant snow villages from Department 56.  Friday nights are collection days for the Firefighter’s Spark of Love Toy Drive.  You are invited to bring a new, unwrapped toy to give to kids who need a Christmas smile. Friday, Dec. 16 to Saturday, Dec. 24, A Christmas Carol. Nineteenth-century London comes to life for you and the family at the South Coast Repertory. Recapture the spirit of an old-fashioned Christmas with this timeless Dickens classic and all your favorite characters. Parents and youngsters of all ages will have a ball, although the ghosts could frighten some children.  Visit scr.org for ticketing information. 

Friday, Dec. 16-17, Dana Point Harbor Boat Parade of Lights at 7:30 p.m. by the water’s edge  Join in on the 37thAnnual Boat Parade of Lights in Dana Point Harbor as “Santa Salutes the 70’s!”  Boaters from all around Orange County decorate their boats and vie for awards such as Best Theme, Best Use of Lights, Most Original, etc. The parade can be viewed for free from anywhere in the harbor or make reservations at one of the many harbor restaurants.  Visit danapointharbor.com for more information.

Saturday, Dec. 17- Dec. 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., St. Regis Monarch Beach Gingerbread House Academy. Experience a true St. Regis Monarch Beach legacy at their annual Gingerbread House Academy. Each Saturday and Sunday in Decemeber families are invited to celebrate the holiday magic by creating their very own holiday gingerbread house. Each house is pre-made by the St. Regis elved and sweetly adorned with holiday cheer by you. Cost: $65 per house and reservations are required. Saturday sessions are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Sunday sessions begin at 10 a.m. For reservation, call (800) 722-1543.
