2 Double-Digit Trout Caught at Laguna Niguel Lake

Fishermen from all over the county and beyond come to the lake that we have right here in our backyard. They typically leave with some pretty big catches, too.

For those who love to fish, last week didn't disappoint.

BIG Trout of the week caught at goes to: Dimitry Tikhonov of Playa Vista with a 15-pound, 9-ounce trout using rainbow powerbait and Bite-On garlic in zone 3.

Jasmine, age 7 and Valos, age of Riverside worked together to reel in a 14-pound, 3-ounce trout using chartreuse power bait in zone 4, creek inlet.

Bass fishing has been excellent and many bass in the 4-6 pound range are being caught according to those at the lake.

According to lake officials, monster trout continue to be stocked every week. "Trout fishing has been awesome with five-fish limits the ‘norm’ and plenty of BIG trout coming to the scales every day," said Rick Menodoza, co-owner of Rip 'n Lips, the company that rents fishing equipment, boats and more at the lake. "Power Bait, Night Crawlers, Trout Worms / Tails and Crank Baits are all producing trout strikes. Fly fishermen continue to catch big numbers of trout on the bead head midges."
