A Metrolink engineer had to halt his train today after someone threw a rock at his window somewhere between Laguna Niguel and Irvine, a Metrolink official said.
The window on Metrolink train 802 between San Juan Capistrano and Riverside was broken about 2:20 p.m.
The engineer, who had glass in his face and eyes, was taken to a medical facility in Laguna Niguel but his injuries were not believed to be significant, said Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson.

The damage to the window prevented further use of the train, Johnson said. The seven passengers on board had to wait 90 minutes until another train arrived to take them to Riverside.
With train 802 out of service, buses were dispatched to Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo to pick up passengers who were due to travel to Riverside later in the day. Bus service was also provided for passengers going from Riverside to the stops in Orange County.
