Beach Access Blocked by Downed Power Lines

Laguna Canyon Road was closed Sunday when utility lines sagged, blocking a key access to the South Coast on a warm winter day.

Both directions of the road through Laguna Canyon, also known as State Route 133, were blocked off at about 10:20 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

The downed power line run toward the cool ocean from both El Toro Road and the San Joaquin Hills toll road (Route 73).

A Laguna Beach parking officer was directing the snarl of traffic at El Toro at Laguna Canyon roads, where inland beachgoers were directed to go north to Newport Beach or south to Capistrano Beach.
