Medically Fragile Woman Goes Missing in Laguna…

Fresh & Easy Construction Begins at Former Video Store Space

Demolition of the former Blockbuster store is in the works to make way for the new neighborhood market coming soon.

Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Express is headed to Laguna Niguel.

On Tuesday afternoon, demolition crews were at the former Blockbuster video store at the corner of Crown Valley Parkway and Golden Lantern Street, tearing down the remaining fixtures and shelving.

According to John Morgan, senior project planner for the city's Community Development Department, residents could see the store open sometime in February 2012. Morgan said the store is one of several pilot stores testing out the "express theme." This means it is smaller than the United Kingdom-based chain's typical stores.

Fresh & Easy is only taking over 4,400 square feet of space, and the remaining portion is going to be subdivided into another retail space that has not been leased yet, Morgan said. The facade of the building will not change other than perhaps extra signs that say it's an "express store."

Lauralea: Glad you are excited. I do think we need more places to eat though.

I like the idea of a local market but, parking will be a problem, the parking lot now is tight and people crossing the parking lots must watch for speeding cars, vehicles going the wrong way etc. They may consider two entrance one in front and one to the back, where there is more parking spots.

Leonard: Looks like people are looking forward to this market!
