The 2013 Dana Point State Championship BBQ drew an estimated 10,000 people Saturday to sample grilled and smoked vittles and get tips from the experts.

Out of 100 teams who signed up for the competition, Burnin' and Lootin' of Corona took first place. They took top honors last year, too, Dana oint Director of Community Services Kevin Evans said. 

All teams were judged on four meat groups: chicken, ribs, pork and brisket.

The contest drew teams from Oklahoma, Wyoming, Utah and Arizona, but most of the competitors came from California, Evans said.

Although the contest had been a two-day affair in the past, the one-day format worked well, Evans told Patch.

"We found that it was better served if we just combined it all into one (day)," he said.
