Grab & Go: Fun Things to Do March 18-20

Spring is in the air, so don't miss these great events happening in and around our city.

Lots of fun things to do this weekend, especially outdoors with the family. There are baseball games and the return of some famous birds. Get out and have some fun!

  1. Friday, March 18, at 1:05 p.m.  Angels vs. San Diego Padres at Angel Stadium.  Grab the family and your Angels gear and enjoy a Friday afternoon game at Angel Stadium!  For ticket information, visit ticketmaster.com.
  2. Friday, March 18, and Saturday, March 19, Enjoy Star Wars Return of the Jedi Musical Edition on Stage!  The Arts and Learning Conservatory is performing Rogue Schindler's musical parody that is made up entirely of students from Orange County, ages 8-15, for the cast and orchestra.  This is sure to delight any Star Wars fanatics, ages 4 and up.  Two performances will be held: Friday at 7 p.m. and one on Saturday at 5 p.m.  Call 714-728-7100 for tickets or visit artsandlearning.com
  3. Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For a full day of family fun, the Fifth Annual Summer Opportunities Jamboree, at Camp James, is the place to be.  Admission and parking are free.  The event includes camps and health, family, travel and safety activities and classes, education and special-needs resources, schools and an open casting call for the Cartoon Network. Entertainment will include the Fifth-Grade Spelling Bee, the Cutest Kid Cover Contest, stage performances and more.  The Gourmet Food Truck Corner will include the Bakerytruck, Crepes Bonaparte, Tornado Potato and the Short Stop BBQ.  Visit parentingoc.com for more information.
  4. Saturday, March 19, St. Joseph's Day and Return of the Swallows Celebration at Mission San Juan Capistrano.  Don't miss this world-renowned celebration that occurs every March, marking the return of the swallows to San Juan Capistrano and the coming of spring.  This annual celebration includes the ringing of the historic bells, live music, a special guest lecture on cliff swallows, Mission Parish School performances and the history of St. Joseph's Day and swallows legend.
  5. Sunday, March 20 at 2 p.m.  The Ocean Institute tide-pool hikes  are the rage. The Ocean Institute in Dana Point Harbor offers tide-pool hikes at neighboring Dana Point Marine protected area.  The tide pools are rich in sea life; low tide offers visitors an ideal viewing and learning experience.  Hike may include up to half a mile of walking along a rocky terrain.  This event is recommended for ages 8 and older.  Parent or guardian must accompany children 12 and younger.
