Sewage Spill Closes Beaches at Salt Creek

A portion of beaches in Dana Point have been closed due to a sewage spill, officials said today.

The Orange County Health Care Agency has closed the area 300 feet up and 300 feet down from the area where Salt Creek empties into the ocean because of the spill. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, that area is off-limits to for swimmers and surfers.

The spill of about 560 gallons was due to a mechanical failure in the South Coast Water District's sewage collection system, according to the Health Care Agency.
