Garage Sale Turns into Garage Crime

Two suspects swipe jewels, a watch and cash from a home on Via Palomino Court.

A garage sale on the 24400 block of Via Palomino Court ended badly for a Laguna Niguel homeowner, according to the Sheriff's Department.

On Saturday around 10:30 a.m., the homeowner invited a couple into her house to show them potential items for sale, according to Jim Amormino, spokesman for O.C. Sheriff's Department.

"The woman let them into the house and one of them distracted her," Amormino said. "They told her that they were interested in her fridge and would be back with their truck."

Instead, one of the suspects removed a watch, jewelry and cash from the home. Estimated value: at least $400.

The couple left in a tan Nissan or Toyota.

"This is considered grand theft and there have been several similar incidents like this in the past few weeks," Amormino said. "We are warning people who have garage sales to be aware of letting people into their homes."
