Buy a Wounded Vet Thanksgiving Dinner

Here's a look ahead at events happening in Laguna Niguel and Dana Point. (They may involve turkey).

Here is a look ahead to events and happenings in Laguna Niguel-Dana Point and Orange County for Nov. 23-29.

  1. All Capistrano Unified students are out for the entire week. So if you end up in an empty school parking lot Monday morning, now you know why.
  2. If you’re driving over the holiday, remember to buckle up and don’t drink alcohol. The California Highway Patrol will engage in a Maximum Enforcement Period from 6 p.m. Wednesday through midnight Sunday. Last year, there were 44 people killed in collisions during the Thanksgiving holiday in California.
  3. The YMCA (29831 Crown Valley Pkwy) offers holiday camps Monday for all of those Capo Unified students ages 5-12 out of class. There's a craft camp and a basketball camp that start at 8 a.m. For kids 3-5, a preschool camp is available starting at 1 p.m.
  4. It's not too late to sponsor Thanksgiving for the family of a wounded veteran. For $35 per person, you can provide dinner at the StillWater Restaurant this Thanksgiving. You can donate online or send a check to the Dana Point 5th Marine Regiment Support Group, P.O. Box 471, Dana Point, CA 92629-0471
  5. For those who would rather burn calories than money, skip Black Friday and head to Irvine Regional Park. OC Parks’ “Orange Friday” event runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and includes mountain biking, horse riding and hiking. When it gets dark, you can ride the Irvine Park Railroad’s Christmas Train.
