The Urban Archeologist: How do you Date a Dress?

Can you guess the age of these images?

I recently discovered a large cache of glass negatives at a flea market. They are currently on loan to me while I sort through and transfer them. I expect to have more information about their origin in a later article. For now, I just want to share them because of the stunning imagery.

These are moments stopped in time, they depict a slice of history in New England that has only been preserved because someone with time and money felt it was important to get out there and capture it all. They also may have realized that this was a good way to make money.

What these images often lack are hard details about the who, what, where, and when. I have some Victorian-era images of women, men and children. But, since the Victorian era ended in 1901, I a not sure exactly what date they are.

Take a look, fathom a guess, and share it in the comments. For another nice line up of ladies in long white dresses, go here and see if you notice how one of them stands out.
