Vacationing in Dana Point, Not Cheap

A recent survey by cheaphotels.org puts "The Whale Capital of the West," as the 10th most expensive in the state.

Vacationing in Dana Point comes at a price.

Known as the "Whale Capital of the West," the city came in tenth in a survey of California's priciest cities in terms of hotel accomodations.

The survey, conducted by CheapHotels.org, compared hotel rates at 30 California destinations, measured between June and August 2011. It was tabulated based on the per-night cost of a double room.

Average cost of a hotel room in Dana Point: $125 per night.

Cities that ranked higher than Dana Point: Laguna Beach at $197 per night, Santa Monica, with a $256-per-night average, and Napa Valley-tucked Yountville, which topped the survey out at $327-per-night for the cheapest double room.
