PHOTOS: Blue Whales Seen in Dana Point for 31 Days Straight

Two local whale watching companies report exciting summer season for sightings.

Even the whales are feeling the heat.

For 31 days in a row, whale watching passengers aboard sea-going vessels from and have witnessed magnificent blue whales.

According to the folks at Capt. Dave's, summertime resident blue whales include: Notcho, who recently came over for an amazing close encounter during one excursion. Three other summer visitors, Kinko, Spike and Bubbles, have also been hanging out, enjoying the abundant krill.

Also celebrating 31 days of blue whale sightings is Dana Wharf Sportfishing and Whale Watching based at the harbor.

"Blue whales are the largest mammal on earth and grow to be over 90 feet. As an example of their massive size, our flag ship and largest vessel is the Dana Pride which is 95 feet in length. So, these blue whales we are seeing are almost as long as the boat, and much longer than our 65-foot catamaran," said General Manager, Donna Kalez.
