Two fin whales, the second largest whale species with lengths that can rival a small blue whale, wowed whale watchers aboard Capt. Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari on Dec. 1.
The two whales were seen lunge feeding on surface krill (a small shrimp-like crustacean) off the coast of Dana Point, in front of , reported Anderson.
"Our whale watching passengers and crew were especially thrilled when the two whales, while our boat was in neutral and stationary, decided to swim directly in front of our bow giving us a rare up-close and unforgettable look at one of the biggest animals in the world," said Anderson.
Perhaps they were trying to find the gingerbread house and other holiday decorations recently put up at the resort.
