Big Trout This Week at Laguna Niguel Lake

The fish are practically jumping into the boats at the lake where more than 2,500 pounds of trout were stocked on Feb. 28

Another fantastic week of trout fishing last week with 12 ‘double digit’ trout weighing in at the scales at . Trout continue to chew night crawlers and any color power bait dipped in garlic scent, according to Rick Mendoza, co-owner of Rip 'n Lips, the company that rents fishing equipment, boats and more at the lake.

"Big trout continue smashing crank baits with the mirror shad and SC shinner working best. Fly fishermen continue to hammer fish in the flats using bead head midges in black, olive, grey and red patterns. Water temp is currently 56 degrees with 4 to 6 feet visibility," he said.

The big catch this week goes to to Brad Dew of Huntington Beach with a 14-pounder that hit a night crawler in zone 1 off the shoreline.

Mathew Duprez of Gardena caught a 13-pound, 6-ounce trout tossing a panther martin spinner off the shoreline in zone 2.

Danny Mun of La Mirada caught two double-digit trout last week with a 12-pound, 13 -ounce that hit a norman crank bait in the flats and a 11-pound, 3-ounce that hit a pink mirror shad crank bait in the flats.

Refugio Garcia of Laughlin caught a 12-pound, 4-ounce trout soaking rainbow power bait in zone 2.

John Lacey Jr. of Costa Mesa landed a 12-pound trout using a Lip Ripperz trout worm in zone 2.
