8,000 Pounds of Trout at Laguna Niguel Lake Await Anglers

Despite the recent wet weather, the lake is bustling with fish and more to come. On Tuesday, another 2,000 pounds will be stocked.

More than 8,000 pounds of rainbow trout up to 15 pounds are waiting to be caught at Laguna Niguel Lake.

Another 2,000 pounds of trout to up to 16 pounds in size will be stocked on Tuesday, Dec. 11.

As of right now the average size Bows being caught fall into the 2-4 pound range. Orange or Silver SC Shinner works great, according to lake officials.

Kastmasters are working on slow retrieve. Shore fishermen reaching half limits quickly with fish ranging from 2-4 pounds on average. Try using an 8 to 18-inch leader depending on the depth of the water. The bait that has been working great is Rainbow powerbait and nightcrawlers, both dipped in garlic scent.

Fishermen in the boats on the troll continue to have success all over the lake, as fish have spread out considerably. Notable catch this week goes to Lou Ruiz, of Aliso Viejo, who reeled in a 2.5 pounder on Dec. 5, using a chartreuse power mouse in zone 1 off the shoreline.

And remember lake conditions are perfect with cold water and plenty of oxygen from recent winter storms making for some awesome battles with these Sierra Bows, say lake officials.
