CUSD Architect Identifies $10.9 in Upgrades Needed at Bergeson

Overall, CUSD is looking at an $822 million tab. Here's Bergeson Elementary's share.

Bergeson Elementary needs $10.9 million in construction upgrades.

About $2.2 million would be used to replace half of the Laguna Niguel-based campus’s portable classrooms with permanent buildings, according to a Capistrano Unified School District architect. Another $2 million would cover the cost of postponed routine maintenance projects, such as floor covering, roofing, heating and the intercom system.

WLC Architects of Rancho Cucamonga put together in 2009 a list of all the district's facility needs. The report was recently updated with 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

At Bergeson, firefighter access is an issue. In the event of an emergency, firefighters cannot gain access to 800 square feet of the school's buildings.
