Architect: Crown Valley Elementary Needs $9.4 Million to Modernize

The entire Capistrano Unified School District is looking at $822 million in repairs and renovations. Here's Crown Valley Elementary's portion.

Crown Valley Elementary School needs $9.4 million in renovations, according to an architectural firm hired by the Capistrano Unified School District.

Of that amount, $2.4 million would go to replace half of the portable classrooms with permanent buildings at the Laguna Niguel campus. Also included in the total is $1.2 million in routine repairs the district has put off in recent years, including paint, floor covering and paving.

The district commissioned WLC Architects of Rancho Cucamonga in 2009 to come up with a list of facility needs. The resulting report has since been updated for 2013 pricing. The district is facing $822 million worth of needs and only has about $44 million on hand to address them.

The updated total also includes $558,000 to purchase state-of-the-art technology for students.

At Crown Valley Elementary School, which serves deaf students, firefighter access is an issue. In the event of an emergency, firefighters cannot gain access to 29,824 square feet of the school's buildings. This is the worst situation in the district.
