Ticktock, Ticktock, the City Has a New Clock

Five things you need to know about the new clock that was recently installed at the new City Hall.

Here are five facts about the new clock, courtesy of City Manager Tim Casey.

  • It's electronic. The time is automatically set via GPS but can also be manually changed.
  • It was installed on the main entrance side of the building to provide visibility to visitors entering City Hall, the public parking areas and the library.
  • It took about a week to install.
  • It was one small part of the overall electrical/fire alarm/intrusion alarm/audio-visual/voice and data bid package. That bid package was awarded to RDM Electric in the amount of $2,190,000.
  • The clock was among the design features that the City Council liked and approved during the  "schematic design" phase of the project in 2009.

Also, new monument sign letters that spell out "Laguna Niguel City Hall" were installed July 15 on the building's front facade.

The new building should be open for business the week of Aug. 29. A grand opening is scheduled for Oct. 15.
