Take This Quiz: Does Obama or Romney Best Match Your Stance

This online free quiz takes an in-depth look at your stance on a range of issues, then compares them to candidates' responses.

With the and the Democratic equivalent ready to begin this week, the presidential race is heating up.

Perhaps you're more confused than ever?

Based on the conversations we're seeing on Patch, there are a wide variety of issues that concern readers in Laguna Niguel and elsewhere when it comes to who will end up in the White House.

But do you really know which presidential candidate best matches your stance on those issues?

A new website launched earlier this year to help voters match up with their ideal candidate, and it's quickly gaining popularity through social media channels. In fact, according to iSideWith.com's homepage, more than a million people have taken the free quiz to determine their ideal candidate since it launched in March.

The quiz covers everything from social issues to foreign policy and answers can be fine tuned: You can choose general or more detailed responses, and a scale allows you to set the level of importance for each issue. Your responses are then analyzed to determine your ideal candidate, complete with a breakdown of your response matches.

Among the people who took the quiz in California, their positions matched President Barack Obama's 55 percent of the time — more than any other candidate. Surprisingly, Californians' views matched Green Party candidate Jill Stein at 48 percent, followed by Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson's positions 47 percent of the time, and GOP candidate Ron Paul at 35 percent.

And what about Romney? Just 32 percent of Californians who took the quiz have the same views as he does on the key issues.

Seems to be a pretty handy tool, but does it work? You tell us. Take the free quiz on iSideWith.com and let us know what you think. Is the candidate it matched with you the candidate you plan to vote for?

Tell us in comments.

Your vote doesn't matter too much anywhere. It's only one (out of thousands or millions) vote. But if you enjoy getting worked up over something that you basically have no control over, go for it. It's cheap entertainment.

Charle why write anything if you don't care?Kind of odd I second what John Brown said and I feel the frustration alongside Happy Camper. How anyone could vote for a party that spends more money than we have and promotes dependacy and illegal rights is beyond my comprehension. As well, my stomach turns when I think that some are castings votes based on who Snoop Dog or Eva Longoria or Barbra Striesand likes. Wow. That is shallow. I am praying that regardless of someone's party preference, they will analyze the facts before us. We are not better off, Obama kept none of his promises, he has damaging policies, he has chosen to character assassinate with lies as a strategy to win by default, because he cannot brag about his actual outcome of his policies in action. His record plain sucks. Business owners are nearing a uprisal. Seriously, show these chance takers some respect for not just relying on others to create a job for them. They invest their time and money and reinvest and they are the job creators. Quit making their life hell. Quit blaming successful people and try your hand at working that extra mile to earn your own wealth. Dream big and stop giving up and handing the power over to a small few morons in government. Obama doesn't feel your pain while is flying around in air force one on your dollar. Trust me. He is not thinking about you and your woes while bobbing his head in a private box at a Jay Z concert. It's so frustrating to think we have given up. Please don't!

"Charles why write anything if you don't care?" Because it is fun and I might learn something.
Lee DeLay October 25, 2012 at 03:34 PM
Hey Mama, looks like your position is not very popular. Maybe because you have no facts to support your case, much like the Obama administration. However you are good like them in belittling and attacking people who oppose your way of thinking. I will ask your question back to you, can you name 5 thinks Obama has done-his ideas and legislation he has passed that are good for the Country and will not harm us or our children?
Lee DeLay October 25, 2012 at 06:02 PM
Mama - Take off the rose colored glasses. Oil speculation....Obama had the house and senate, why didn't he do something about it then? He has the attorney general...oh that is right he was too busy running guns to mexico that killed our border patrol agents. Unemployment over 12% more people on food stamps and FREE cell phones than ever before. More poverty while the government gets richer. And let's talk about the wealthy paying their fair share. 1) Even if you taxed 95% of their income you still would not make up the deficit your trying to. 2) Who do you think hires all of the workforce. Business are already laying off and cutting back hours on their workforces because of Obamacare, what do you think it is going to be like next year? John supported your claim and I am sure we could add a 100 more. But you will never understand or appreciate the truth. Is it because your President is a liar and you feel you can lie along with him.....Oh you want proof? Obama knew 2hrs after the attack in Benghazi was going on (drone video & emails) that this was a terrorist attack, yet did nothing about it and he and his talking heads lied about it for weeks and as recently as the last debate. Can't blame Bush for that. Maybe if O didn't cut back our military so much, there would have been assets to send to help out our people who died.

What rights are the Republicans waging a war against? The "right" to kill unborn babies? Try thinking & analyzing a little for yourself. The opposition to mandating coverage of birth control will not forbid anyone from obtaining their own birth control. However Obamacare, violates the 1st amendment free exercise of religion clause which says that govt shall not make any law interfering w the free exercise of religion. Many people have a religious objection to birth control. Others just object to the kinds that would act to abort a fertilized embryo. They should not be forced to provide what violates their religious beliefs. What many don't seem to realize is that the more mandates for coverage, the more that coverage costs which will tend to raise the price of providing health insurance. I don't think it is the place of govt to decide what must be covered in my health insurance. Allow us to choose the coverage & price we want. So, I as a woman am proud to be a Republican. I like the fact that in general, Republicans support giving people an opportunity rather than a hand out & promote a prosperous economy in which all can do better.
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 04:57 AM
What "attacks" on women or anti-woman policies? Just because we oppose women being able to kill their unborn babies or don't think its up to govt to force employers to provide birth control--even to the point of violating the 1st amendment free exercise of religion clause--how is that anti-woman? Obama talks about being for women but statistics show women in his administration earn less than the men. So he publically supports pay equality, but doesn't have it in his own administration. You need to look not a just his rhetoric, but what he has & hasn't done. He ran up the deficit & the national debt. He promised to cut it in half, instead under his administration it is half again as much as had been accumulated under all previous presidents. That debt is going to drag all of us down & especially the younger ones who are going to be the ones stuck paying higher taxes & getting less benefits.
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 05:07 AM
Well, the Republican party today stands for opportunity for all, rather than handouts. Actually I miss some of what the Dem icon, JFK said, like, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Obama seems to be promoting the opposite message of buying votes by offering more & more goodies to people--that has to be paid for eventually. & there aren't enough rich people to pay for it all so its going to come down to the middle class & especially the younger ones. Have you never wondered why some of the provisions of Obamacare have been put off until 2013? Have you never considered that it could be to keep the negative economic aspects of it from becoming obvious until after the election? Have you not compared what he promised w Obamacare w what impartial analysts are saying about it? You know things like it is supposed to lower health care costs & yet health insurance costs are rising. He promised that they could keep their ins coverage if they liked it, but Obamacare is forcing many co's to cancel the health ins coverage that they do offer. Also just read about a major co that is testing having more part time employees under the threshold that triggers the need to provide health insurance. That isn't because they don't want to provide insurance but because when you mandate more things be covered, it raises costs, pricing it out of reach of more people--the opposite of what it was supposed to do!
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 05:14 AM
Agree that so many can't see through him. He even uses the bible about being his brother's keeper or the like to support his govt programs, but yet he is a huge hypocrite in that he doesn't even help his own African half brother & other members of his African family that he talks warmly about in his book, but does nothing to help. His aunt that he refers to fondly in his book is an illegal alien living in public housing but he hasn't done anything to help her. Republicans in general believe in helping people ourselves & through churches & charities where the $ generally goes further than w govt programs where so much gets wasted. & many well intentioned govt programs are ineffective or duplicate other programs, wasting more $ that could be better used for other things. & how about all those unions who supported Obamacare, but then got waivers so they didn't have to be subject to its provisions--like congress that passed Obamacare but isn't subject to it themselves. You can bet that if it was going to affect them they would have been more careful to actually read what was in it.
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 05:17 AM
Well, you never know, it could matter & it does at least on some issues. We have local offices & our congress people that we have an opportunity to vote for. & maybe you could get involved in outreach to other hispanics female & male & show them how the Republican party aligns w the family values that are so typical of the hispanic community.
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 05:29 AM
Well said Stephanie! While the Dems lull Blacks & Hispanics into voting for them by paying lip service to helping, in fact they seem to rather want to keep them dependent on the plantation that help empower them to achieve the American dream. Don't just follow mainstream media that seems to be rooting for Obama. The way they cover the news gives favorable coverage to Obama & very little reporting on his failures. How about in Libya? Why did we even intervene there? How much did that cost us? Yeah, Gaddafi was not a nice guy, & did have past American blood on his hands, but more recently had moderated & was actually opposing Islamic extremists. & now Hilary Clinton & Obama have claimed to take responsibility for Libya, but really only for finding out now--not for the fact that they have blood on their hands for refusing the requested additional security! Obama seems naive (as unfortunately so were Bush & to a certain extent Romney) who do not realize that the core of the Koran is not compatible w democracy, women's rights, etc. Obama promoted the Arab Spring while some of us who had been around longer were skeptical of what the results would be. Sadly, those young students & others who seemed to want Democracy & more rights have instead gotten more Islamist regimes that threaten the stability of the Middle East & who are more hostile to Israel as well as to Christians & other religious minorities in their countries.
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 05:42 AM
Recently we lost 4 Americans including the Ambassador in Libya. It has come out now--although not sure the mainstream media is covering this--that the Ambassador & others had repeatedly requested better security there in Libya. There were multiple warnings of unrest & the lack of ability of the Libyan military to protect our people. Many of us who are not even security experts could put 2 + 2 & get 4. Anniversaries are important to Al Queda. 9/11 was a big 1 for them, but while security people pleaded for better security & its likely mentioned the significance of 9/11, the ball was dropped & our Ambassador was sent in to a volatile area w inadequate security that led to his death. Multiple times he warned about things & asked for better security but it was not granted. & then after it happened Obama is busy out campaigning rather than pausing to tend to national business. He is our president & should be tending to business--such as taking advantage of meeting foreign leaders while the UN was meeting rather than going on talk TV & the like. He seems to be more concerned w celebrities than w real Americans & doing the job he is paid to do! & all the lies about how the attack was a result of that trashy movie trailer & apologizing for that rather than standing up & letting the world know that we have freedom of speech here & even trash like that is protected.
Kathi October 26, 2012 at 05:52 AM
Obama also seems more concerned about offending volatile Muslims than offending Christians. He bends over backward to apologize for what offends Muslims but does nothing to condemn very offensive & blasphemous anti-Christian "art." Admittedly its much more dangerous to offend a Muslim than a Christian. & when he apologizes he may think he is being diplomatic, but he likely is being perceived by foreign Muslims as weak. & being perceived as weak is dangerous. Teddy Roosevelt said, "Speak softly but carry a big stick." JFK stood strong against Russian missiles in Cuba & they backed down. Obama doesn't have the guts for that & Iran can see that so they are not afraid of us. Reagan had a strong military that stood up for freedom & against Russia & the unthinkable happened--the Iron Curtain started to crumble & it fell. Being strong in standing up to other countries rather than leading to war has actually produced results of peace when it kept dangerous nations from advancing (the Russians in Cuba & Eastern Europe which rather rapidly once it started, threw off Communist tyranny). I don't think that either our allies or our enemies perceive Obama having the guts to stand up against Iranian nuclear power, etc which makes for a more dangerous world. If the world really felt that he meant what he says, Iran might be more inclined to stop their nuclear preparations. But they don't think he has the guts to stop them so they continue.

Brownie how about the Republican years and the mess Obama inherited.; Lehman, B of A, Merrill Lynch, AIG, Countrywide, Washington Mutual, Bear Stearns, Freddie and Fannie . 1. Patient neglect at Walter Reed Army Hospital2. US Attorney firings 3. Libby/Plame Affair (Outing a CIA agent) 4. Iraq war 5. Big budget deficits and vastly increased national debt; the national debt as of the date of Bush’s 2001 inauguration was $5.7 trillion. By January 2009 it was $10.6 trillion, an increase of 85.6%. 8. Overuse/abuse of National Guard and Reserves. According to a report by an independent commission on the National Guard January 31, 2008, more than 88% of these units were not combat ready or prepared to deal with a catastrophic attack on the country. Equipment shortfall 2007 of $48 billion. 9. Dubai Ports deal (a Middle East company in charge of US ports in the age of terrorism) 10. Subprime mortgage bubble - one of or THE all time financial screw ups on the republican's/Bush's watch 11. Bush’s ties to Enron and Ken Lay. Lay helped finance the younger Bush’s gubernatorial campaign. 11. Border Fence with Mexico (a short fence for a long border - Bush signed "Secure Fence Act" into law in 2006. construct a barrier to stem illegal immigration into the country along the Mexican border. How a 700 mile fence along a 2100 mile border would accomplish this The final cost, could be between $8 billion and $30 billion.
Kathi November 01, 2012 at 09:34 PM
Well, for 1 thing your argument is about 4 years out of date--Bush is NOT in this election. I thought we had finally been done w all the blame Bush stuff 4 yrs ago. Part of that financial mess had to do w Freddie & Fannie & GOP had proposed regulations or laws to rein them in, but those regs were shot down by Dems such as Frank & Obama! They might have helped prevent the later mess. But we are now in 2012 & Obama has his own record to be ashamed of. Sure things were a mess when he took office but what has he done about it? Failed stimulus that wasted millions or billions of $ a lot of which went to his contributors! The financial industry bailout at least seemed to earn the tax payers their $ back. The auto industry bailout by contrast still has the taxpayers down big time & doesn't look like they will be able to repay govt any time soon & of course Obama structured that to favor his union supporters at the expense of secured creditors & taxpayers. On the 1 hand Obama promotes failed stimulus programs costing billions. On the other hand he pushes through Obamacare & other job killing laws & regulations. Thousands of jobs are being lost because of the costs to businesses of Obamacare, meaning less $ to spend on wages. So there are layoffs directly as a result w more coming. The economy should have recovered more by now but instead jobless rates still above 8% officially & real unemployment much higher!
Kathi November 01, 2012 at 09:56 PM
Of course now is starting to come out (at least on some news sources although not sure whether mainstream media are bothering to report it) that there were many warnings prior to 9/11 of the danger of attack. 1st off I think most of us can remember in previous years that 9/11 was considered a day for heightened security because of the anniversary. But was Obama trying to maintain the facade that Al Queda was defeated w the death of Bin Ladin (for which he is taking way too much credit as that effort to 1st locate him & then find a way to neutralize him had been going on since during the Bush admin & finally our dedicated military & intelligence had the info--w the help of a local dr who they neglected to protect & who is now in prison there in Pakistan). So maybe Obama saw the request for heightened security a repudiation for this storyline that Al Queda was in disarray. Whatever happened, Fox News has an Aug 16 cable from the US Mission in Benghazi warning that they could not protect against a concerted attack & that there were several militias in the area & neither they (US Mission) nor govt or military had capability to protect. So why wasn't help sent? Why were policies on security violated? Was Obama trying to show how successful his push in Libya had been? Why did our govt leaders betray the ambassador & others by failing to respond & provide security or evacuate them? & why no rescue while attack going on?
Kathi November 01, 2012 at 10:08 PM
Actually what I miss was the old media--the kind that reported the news evenly--the the mostly one-sided, selective reporting that much of the mainstream media does where they report anything negative about Romney/Biden but mostly give a pass to Obama, but report anything favorable to him. So the American public is getting a very distorted picture of the 2 main presidential candidates, as well as down-ticket candidates where statements by pro-life & GOP are distorted, but miss-statements & outright lies--such as the one by Biden in the VP debate about no religious or Catholic hospitals being forced to provide coverage for abortions or contraception when in fact they are. I have seen #s showing that mainstream media give scant attention to scandals such as Fast & Furious--the gun-running scheme under Holder that put lots of guns into drug cartel hands & were used in the death of a border patrol agent. & how about Libya? Are they reporting anything about how much warning there was about threats there & even requests for help that were not acted upon? & MSNBC as more than once been caught showing deceptively edited video that was very misleading. 1 in Travon Martin case & another that left out key parts of Romney's actual comments & were edited to make it look as though he was unaware of checkout scanners. Media should be ashamed of their lack of even-handed coverage of the 2 campaigns!
Kathi November 01, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Whoops edit to newly posted. 1st paragraph that would be I miss the old even handed media & hate the selective reporting....
AMERIKANISCH November 03, 2012 at 05:24 PM
Most married women vote Republican. Interesting how the single ones who don't have a man or who don't want one are most worried about "women's rights". If your not having sex, it's not an issue. And if you do get pregnant, exactly what will Romney do to stop you from getting an abortion?
AMERIKANISCH November 03, 2012 at 05:44 PM
"Under my plan, energy prices would NECESSARILY sykrocket." High gas prices are part of Obama's plan. If he could get them up to $10 per gallon, he would LOVE it. Obama wants to go green and the fastest way to do that is force up gas prices. Obama has said that he wants to move tax money to the inner cities. Obama doesn't like the 'burbs" like Laguna Niguel. He wants everybody living and working on top of each other and using public transportation.
Kathi November 06, 2012 at 07:24 PM
Yes, Romney was right! & the parents of at least some of the 4 killed are asking for answers. Mainstream media is not giving all the news on this, but a mo before, greater security was requested & it was denied. There were a # of communications back & forth about the lack of security as well as the fact that there were terrorist training places in or near Benghazi! Our govt failed those men. & not only that, the attack went on for hours. In that time they could have sent help but they didn't. Panetta's response at one point was that they needed to know more before responding! Obviously NOT a military guy. So they dithered while our people were killed! In addition, Obama seems to have a major problem w calling terrorism by its name. He is not a Muslim but he seems to have a very pro-Islamic viewpoint--likely influenced by his childhood memories w his Muslim step-father. So he seems reluctant to recognize Islamic terrorism as such. 60 Minutes just released full transcript of interview w Obama the day after the attack where he refused to call it terrorism & just said it was an attack on Americans! Besides that, it was known that Al Queda likes anniversaries so usually security was increased around 9/11. But I guess Obama wants the illusion that Bin Ladin is gone so no worries anymore.
Kathi November 06, 2012 at 07:36 PM
S. L. MILLIGAN, You need to review your history a bit--just the last 4 years. For the 1st 2 years of his presidency, Obama had majorities in both houses! & so he rammed through Obamacare which most had not read & didn't know all that was in it. That was rammed through w smoke & mirrors, w a lot of it conveniently not going into effect until after this election--likely to help lull people like you to sleep. That is already costing jobs. & instead of increasing coverage, many co's are being forced to drop coverage because of the expensive mandates. Obama doesn't know what he is doing--or maybe he does but hides it. He throws billions at a stimulus plan for "shovel ready" projects that weren't. A lot of it went to his contributors like the Solyendra fiasco. So billions spent w very little results except loads more debt. So on the one hand he spends billions on stimulus that didn't produce much & on the other hand he pushes job-killing policies like Obamacare & others. & the younger ones will be stuck paying for the debt! But most don't realize it yet! You talk about Bush taking 8 years to increase the debt. Not sure what you were trying to say, but yes, in 3 1/2 years Obama ran up way more debt. He lied. He said he was going to CUT the national debt & if he didn't he didn't deserve to be re-elected, but he has conveniently forgotten that. Instead of cutting debt he ran up more in his short time in office than during Bush's 8 years & w very little to show.
Kathi November 06, 2012 at 07:54 PM
Mama, probably the reason you don't know about the drones or the "leaking" the identify of the SEAL team that took out OBL is because you get your news from the Obama loving media that doesn't report a lot. Try reading or watching some of Fox News. You don't have to like everything there, but at least they report news that most of the rest of the media ignores because it reflects negatively on their savior Obama. He announced publicly what unit had taken out OBL. You may have read that & not realized that this made them a target from terrorists. You also conveniently ignored the points that John Brown made to answer you. Obama actively worked to replace the regimes in Egypt & even provided military support in Libya. Those regimes were not democratic or nice, but they were friendly to the US by that time (even Gaddafi was hunting terrorists). Maybe Obama & you are too young to remember all the revolutions to get rid of dictators that ended up w a worse, more oppressive totalitarian regime such as Cuba, Iran. Some of us realized the chances of the Arab Spring achieving what so many wanted were very small & the likelihood of more oppressive & less friendly Islamist govt coming in very likely--like has happened. Those Islamists don't respect the rights of women. Many more women in Egypt are now veiled, among other things. & the middle East is a lot more volatile & friendly to terrorists & less to Israel & US!
