A 205-unit senior apartment complex will break ground this fall near the center of Laguna Niguel.

Flintridge Partners will build the Crestavilla apartments, designed for independent seniors and those who require assisted living, according to the developer's website.

It will offer luxury amenities including restaurants, a spa and theaters, a spiritual resource center, allowing Shepherd of the Hills Church, also a partner in the project, to continue its ministry at the location. Of the 11.5 acre lot, 7.2 acres will remain hillside open space, aid he developer.

Some residents objected, according to a report from the Orange County Register, but the City Council approved the $65.5-million project unanimously.

The building also generated fierce debate when it was approved in December at the planning commission level.
