New Speed Limit On Greenfield Now Official

Make sure you are driving 35 m.p.h rather than 40 m.p.h. starting on Feb. 17.

The adopted the new speed limit on Greenfield Drive from the north city limit to Crown Valley Parkway last night. The new speed limit will be 35 m.p.h. revised downward from 40 m.p.h. and will be going into effect on Feb. 17.

According to Director of Public Works Dave Rogers, the decision to change the speed on Greenfield is based on the state rules that require speed limits to be based on the “reasonable driver” premise. This rule states that most drivers (85 percent) drive in a manner that is based on the conditions they encounter and do not intentionally drive in a manner that will result in collisions or citations.

A late 2010 traffic survey showed that the average speeds for drivers on Greenfield Dr. was 34.8 m.p.h.,  so according to the “reasonable driver premise,” the speed limit is being revised downward to the nearest 5 m.p.h.
