Laguna Niguel Searches for New City Manager

The Laguna Niguel City Council will hold a closed session Tuesday to review candidates for the post.

The Laguna Niguel City Council Tuesday will review candidates for the post of city manager.

The post is now filled by City Manager Tim Casey. He retired in November, but stayed on part-time to serve as interim city manager. According to the current city council agenda, council members will look over potential appointments during a closed session at the end of the meeting.

Casey said he doesn't expect the council to make a decision Tuesday, but the agenda item allows members to adjourn to a continued regular meeting sometime within the next two weeks when they will likely appoint the new manager.

The council interviewed eight finalists last year and whittled the field down to three for a second interview, Casey said. Now, the council is negotiating the contract and compensation with the single candidate they aim to hire for the position, Casey said.

Casey has spent 40 years in California local government and started in 1990 as Laguna Niguel city manager, the first permanent one hired after the city was incorporated, he said.
