Laguna Niguel Planning Commission Green Lights Fitness Center

The new Life Time Fitness Center will be built at the Center of Rancho Niguel in the former Expo Design Center.

 

On Tuesday, the Laguna Niguel Planning Commission unanimously approved Resolution No. 12-08 that will let thecenter be built in the location of the site at.

The approval of the resolution allows for the current 96,000 square-foot Expo Expo site to be demolished and in its place, construct a new 127,000 square-foot fitness center. There will also be a new 19,800 square-foot parking structure with 559 parking spaces constructed on top of the current parking lot.

The project will include:

  • An indoor and outdoor lap pool.
  • A leisure pool with a water slide.
  • Three basketball courts.
  • Indoor and outdoor deck with dining area.
  • A three-story rock wall.

Life Time Fitness was founded in Brooklyn Park, Minn. in 1992. Since then the company has grown to 105 fitness centers across the United States and Canada. In 2004, Life Time completed its initial public offering with the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol, LTM. The company employees 19,000 people as of Dec. 31, 2010 and according to its website the average club employees 220-250 people.

This will be the first Life Time Fitness Center in California, and the center will be open 24 hours a day. 

The Laguna Niguel Planning Commission ended the meeting by strongly encouraging the company to place the words: “Laguna Niguel” underneath’s the company’s logo on the side of the building facing the 73 toll road.
