Residents Flock to Grand Opening of City Hall
After 19 years in the making, the building at 30111 Crown Valley Pkwy was finally dedicated by the mayor and city employees during a grand celebration.
It was a day for Laguna Niguel residents to remember and cherish.
After 19 years in the making, city officials held a grand opening celebration on Saturday to show off the new City Hall located at 30111 Crown Valley Pkwy.
Hundreds gathered to relish in the day's festivities that ranged from a ribbon-cutting ceremony to a speech given by the mayor. Even Benjamin Franklin showed up.

“This is one of the best days in the history of Laguna Niguel,” said Mayor Gary Capata, as he delivered his welcome speech. “We created first-class parks and recreation facilities, skateboard parks, and all before finally building a City Hall. It has been completed and paid for with cash, and a no-debt basis.”
The building is located at the corner of Alicia and Crown Valley parkways and offers an outdoor amphitheater; state-of-the art council chambers, and an emergency operations center.

As Capata cut the red ribbon, and Councilmember Linda Lindholm greeted citizens as they entered the building. The beauty of the building took many visitors by surprise that had not yet been by to see it. Officially, city employees moved into the building in late August and the facility was on Aug. 29.
“I watched this be built from the ground up. I love Laguna Niguel and had to come out here today to see it. This building is going to be wonderful for our community,” said Grace Minck, a Laguna Niguel resident for 19 years.
The two-story building was built by the C.W. Driver Construction Co. and is 40,800 square feet with a 170 parking spaces. The construction to build it cost $25 million, but a city brochure claims it will save $600,000 a year in rent payments that can be allocated to other city services and projects.
“This new building is gorgeous. This is going to create a wonderful environment for our city and we deserve this. I am on the finance committee for the city and I know that we can afford it,” said Jerry McClusky. “It is going to be ours forever.”
