Laguna Niguel Bans Red-Light Cameras

The measure passes on a 4-1 City Council vote.

Red-light cameras are unlikely to appear in Laguna Niguel anytime soon. Last week, the City Council tentatively approved a measure outlawing the devices, which automatically snap photos of motorists who run red lights.

Laguna Niguel does not currently have any red-light cameras, but passed the ban anyway, on a 4-1 vote.

Councilman Joe Brown opposed the law, saying he wanted to see additional information about the effectiveness of the cameras.

The council is scheduled to give final approval of the measure on Sept. 6.

The City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. Beginning Aug. 30, meetings will be held at the new Council Chambers at 30111 Crown Valley Pkwy.
