Gov. Jerry Brown today appointed a Laguna Niguel resident as an Orange County Superior Court judge.

Gary L. Moorhead, 63, has been a managing partner at Pohlson and Moorhead LLP in Laguna Hills since 1980. Before that he was an associate at Schell & Delamer from 1976 to 1980.

Moorhead, a Republican, earned a law degree from Southwestern School of Law and a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University. At the end of January he will fill a vacancy left by Orange County Superior Court Judge Richard Toohey, who is retiring after 18 years on the bench.

He will earn an annual salary of $181,292.
