Doheny Nonprofit Weighs in Against Beach Fire Ban

The Doheny Beach Interpretive Association has cast its lot against the South Coast Air Quality Management Board's efforts to ban fire pits in Southern California.

The Doheny Beach Interpretive Association of Dana Point has added its voice to the growing backlash of the South Coast Air Quality Management District's proposal to ban beach fires in Los Angeles and Orange County.

The association opposed the ban in their monthly newsletter this week.

The Newport Beach City Council and a group of its residents appear to be increasingly lonely voices advocating for the ban, arguing that the fires are bothering beachfront residents.

Lining up against the ban are the cities of San Clemente and Huntington Beach and the Orange County Supervisors.

Several Orange County politicians attended the weenie roast and s'more-in, a rare showing of agreement among Republicans such as Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and Democrats such as Huntington Beach Mayor Connie Boardman.

The AQMD meeting to take input on the matter will be moved from May 3 to June 7, according the association newsletter.
