Dana Point City Council Selects Bartlett for Mayor

Councilwoman Lisa Bartlett was chosen by her colleagues Tuesday to serve as Dana Point's new mayor. Bartlett last served as the city's mayor in 2009.

A divided council chose Bartlett over Councilman William Brough. Councilman Carlos Olvera nominated Brough over disappointments stemming from the city's ongoing Town Center project.

"I would argue that there are people on this council who abandoned Town Center," Brough said. "A year ago in December I asked for an agenda item to jump start Town Center and I got it started."

Mayor Steven Weinberg, who nominated Bartlett, attributed the long gap on action regarding Town Center to the recent recession. The project has been in the planning stage for 25 years.

Brough and Olvera dissented with the majority in the Bartlett vote.

In her first act as mayor, Bartlett nominated Weinberg as mayor pro tempore, which was approved 4-1 with Olvera dissenting.

Bartlett is running for County Supervisor in the 5th district seat currently held by Pat Bates. Bates will term out in 2015.
