Capo Beach Residents Fight for the Right to Keep Chickens
A ban on our egg-laying friends has been in place since 1994.
Since 1994, chickens have been contraband in the eyes of the Dana Point municipal law.
But one Capistrano Beach resident, Nancy Weagley -- egged on by supporting neighbors – is looking to change all that.
According to the website DanaPointChickens.com, chickens were originally allowed in the city of Dana Point, before cityhood in 1989 and after, until about 1994.

Weagley has rallied the troops in her neighborhood, where dozens display signs that say, “We Support Hens.” About 300 signatures were collected at the Feed Barn.
On Tuesday, the City Council directed the Planning Commission to take a look at lifting the ban on hens, according to the Orange County Register. Roosters will be out of luck.

Not all are enamored with the concept. One man called City Hall, demanded his opinion be sent on to councilmembers anonymously. He said: “Chickens have always been food, not pets.”
