UPDATE: Husband Freed After Shooting Death of Wife, Officials Say

Johanah Wade, 24, was killed by a single shot early Friday at a Laguna Niguel apartment complex. Her husband was released after questioning and the case remains under investigation.

Sheriff's deputies were investigating the shooting death of a 24-year-old woman in Laguna Niguel early Friday.

At 1:25 a.m., the 25-year-old husband of Johanah Wade, a Laguna Niguel dental assistant, called authorities from the Niguel Summit apartment complex in the 30000 block of Pacific Island Drive, said Sheriff's Lt. Joe Balicki.

The husband was questioned and released as investigators try to determine whether the shooting was an accident or murder, said Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino. Deputies were executing a search warrant at the home Friday morning.

After the shooting, paramedics rushed Wade to Mission Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound, officials said.

There was no history of domestic violence calls involving the couple, Amormino said, nor were there any calls from neighbors about any commotion before the shooting.

I'm actually the San Clemente Patch editor, but I also cover breaking news in the early morning for all the sites in Orange County. Debbie will likely pick up on the follow up, depending how our editors handle the assignments. We work as a news team here at Patch.

What an odd comment Shirley. Condolences to the victim"s family seems more appropriate.

Shirley, weird comment. I hope ANYONE writes about the reason she was shot. So sad.

Shirley, it comes down to who can get there first probably. Have you ever owned your own business? My guess is not because you do what you have to do... The patch isn't a huge paper, so maybe you could lighten up, geeez!

Shirley, you are abviously most concerned about petty office politics than breaking news about someone getting killed and the details of what transpired which is the only thing I and your readership are interested in. Thanks for a job well done Andy in making sure the readership was alerted to this major incident in our community in a timely manner. Please get us more data as it comes to you as I and others are interested in getting more information on this story. I'm sure Shirley can keep us abreast on her personal emotions as it relates to her early childhood sand box issues about who is playing with her toys. Seriously! Rich

The hubby is innocent until proven guilty but everyone is suspicious. Unfortunately under our justice system a murderer can walk free if he can not be found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. We can only assume he must have provided the old "it went off accidentally while I was cleanning it" story since he's not been charged yet. Johanah can't tell us what really happened. On another topic. Shirely you are both obnoxious and petty.

What a tragedy for this young woman. Incidents of this nature are rare in our area, thank goodness. On the topic of reporting, I think it's natural that when reporting a local event of this nature that reporters work in tandem, or in teams to get the job done.

Lighten up on Shirley guys....obviously she gets the point. I too thought her comment was strange but we don't have to beat her down.

Why were a bunch of comments deleted?
fact checker January 20, 2013 at 04:55 PM
I think Shirley has had enough of this conversation...and I don't blame her. Talk about a tempest in a teapot.
jscapo January 20, 2013 at 05:48 PM
Apparently Shirley's comment has been deleted along with others which makes most of the above comments irrelevant. May as well delete them too!

@jscapo, agreed! When comments are constantly being delete, it makes the dialog hard to follow. Just sayin'!
