Woman Who Survived Jump Onto Freeway Is Recovering

The 44-year-old San Clemente woman was hospitalized for two days before she was sent home.

The woman who tried to commit suicide  in Capo Beach Friday is home recovering from her injuries.

That’s the word from Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino.

“A lot of people were interested in the story. I got a lot of calls,” Amormino said.

A 44-year-old San Clemente woman perched perilously from the bridge at Avenida California about 10:10 a.m. Friday.

California Highway Patrol officers stopped traffic in both directions, and those stuck in the ensuing jam watched as sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers tried to talk her away from the ledge.

To the horror of onlookers, several of whom have posted their thoughts at Patch, she jumped at 10:25. The woman survived the fall.

The woman was taken to Mission Hospital and on Sunday, she was released.

“She is recovering from her injuries,” considered to be serious, Amormino said. “They treated her and sent her home.”

I agree. Isn't there a way to encase the bridge making it impossible to have access to jump?

Why do people who do this think it is ok to do it in public places? If you want to off yourself, fine but don't do it in front of others and scar them for life. Its just as selfish as the act itself.

"Isn't there a way to encase the bridge making it impossible to have access to jump?" Sure there are ways. But none of them are cheap. And, even if we did spend the billions to modify every bridge in the county, state, or country, those determined to kill themselves would find another way.

I am just amazed they sent her home, would be afraid she is just going to try it again. Yes you can encase the bridge, but that just stops people from getting to the outside of the bridge from up top, Look at the photo I took, the Officer climbed up the slope, and got to the bridge, from the freeway, if someone wants to do it bad enough, their going to find a way
