Vendor Sentenced for 2 Disneyland Dry Ice Bomb Blasts

A former Disneyland employee was convicted and sentenced Monday for setting off two dry ice bombs in a Toontown trash bag and vending cart last May.

Christian Isaiah Barnes, 23, Long Beach, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of possession of a destructive device. His sentence included 36 days in jail and an order to stay away from Disneyland.

On May 28 sometime after 4 p.m., Barnes was working at a vending cart outside of Toontown when a female employee came to relieve him of his shift. As Barnes opened the vending cart, the first water bottle containing dry ice exploded.

He then took a second water bottle with dry ice from the cart and walked toward an employee break room. While passing through Toontown, Barnes threw the second water bottle into a trash can and left the area.

Several minutes later, a custodian removed the trash bag containing the dry ice bomb. The custodian put the bag on the ground and walked a short distance to clear another trash can.

While the trash bag was on the ground, the water bottle exploded.

In addition to jail time, Barnes was given three years informal probation and 100 hours of community service.
