UPDATE: Vegetation Fire Threatens Buildings in Laguna Niguel

A 2-acre fire in Laguna Niguel has been contained, but investigators are still working to find out what caused the blaze.

Orange County Fire Authority firefighters battled a two-acre brusher today, stopping it before it could reach homes in Laguna Niguel.

The blaze was first reported just after 2 p.m. at 29101 Kite Hill Drive, OCFA Capt. Jon Muir said. The knockdown time was 2:23 p.m., Muir added.

Hand crews are still on the scene, making sure hot embers don't reignite, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze, said Muir.

Low humidity and winds played a role in the fire, he added.

"Because humidty has been low and temperatures have been high, we're seeing conditions now that we usually see in July and August," said Muir.

The blaze came "very close" to some homes and the Costco center, Muir said. No one was injured.

Muir encouraged residents to prepare for a possibly intense fire season by going to the county's Ready Set Go fire preparedness site.
