UPDATE: Driver Released in Pedestrian Crash, SigAlert Lifted

Moulton Parkway reopens five hours after a Monday accident that left a woman critically injured.

A five-hour SigAlert that closed Moulton Parkway after a female pedestrian was struck in a crosswalk was lifted around 8 p.m. Monday, officials said.

The 43-year-old pedestrian, who suffered head trauma and leg injuries, was listed in critical condition at Mission Hospital. The driver of the car that hit her, a 45-year-old man, was released as authorities continued investigating the accident, officials said.

The driver's left arm was injured in the crash, but he's now OK, according to Lt. Steve Gil of the Orange County Sheriff's Department. And the motorcycle deputy who crashed into a patrol car at the scene has been released from the hospital, Gil said.

The accident occurred around 2:45 p.m. when the southbound car hit the westbound pedestrian as she crossed Moulton at Aliso Niguel, officials said. A SigAlert was issued shortly after.

No names were released.

I was there as well. Waiting at the redlight in the #2 s/b lane on Moulton. Seemed like the guy that it the lady had made a left hand turn from Aliso Niguel and was accelerating rapidly. Then all I could see was what I thought was smoke (probably from his brakes locking up) and a lot of papers flying. Then I saw the guy jump out of his car and kind of run/hop across Moulton. It wasn't until I drove slowly past his disabled car that I saw the woman laying on the other side of the median on Moulton and realized he had hit her. His car was really messed up so I assume she was hurt very badly. Was going to stop to help but there were many others that had done so. The image has been bothering me ever since. Hope she makes it.

What ever happened to something being thrown over the wall by the driver after the crash?

I saw the guy run or hop across the s/b lanes of Moulton acting pretty shaken but I couldn't tell if he threw something or not. He did go almost all the way to the sidewalk on that side of Moulton before he turned around and went back to his car. I thought he might have been in shock and he was grabbing his left arm or hand.
