Traffic Nightmare After Big Rig Strikes Overpass on I-5

A truck hit an overpass at Camino de Estrella Saturday morning, tying up traffic for hours.

A crash on southbound Interstate 5 at Camino de Estrella tangled up traffic Saturday afternoon after a truck went up an embankment and hit an overpass, according to the Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 9:44 a.m. and involved at least two other vehicles, according to CHP dispatchers. No information was released regarding any injuries.

At least one lane was blocked by the collision, and a SigAlert was issued in the area.

One witness told the CHP that the truck went across three lanes and went up an embankment on the right shoulder of the highway. The truck’s trailer struck the Camino de Estrella overpass but didn’t cause any visible damage, according to the CHP. A Caltrans supervisor was called to the scene to inspect the bridge.

Patch will update this story as more details become available.

Yet there is still only one way in and out of this area. It is unconscionable that the state would prevent the 241 from being completed to offer an alternate route.
