Sex Accusations Against Hockey Mom 'Freak Out' Neighbors

Kathia Maria Davis, 44, of Laguna Niguel, allegedly had sex with two of her son's former teammates.

Neighbors of the Laguna Niguel hockey mom who was arrested last week on suspicion of unlawful sex with minors said they were surprised and even "freaked out" by the allegations.

"This is a quiet neighborhood," said Rick Yartz, a Los Angeles firefighter whose house sits behind the home of Kathia Maria Davis, the 44-year-old homemaker who and is out on $25,000 bail.

"I've lived here for 10 years, and I think she has too," said Yartz, who was outside with his children Tuesday in the 1980s tract. The neighborhood has 80-plus houses and is home to young families, as well as older residents.

Yartz said he hoped the allegations were untrue, because "they are pretty bad. I do feel sorry for her kids."

The first alleged victim, who is still a juvenile, told his mother last week of the alleged relationship, Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino said. The revelation prompted an investigation.

A second boy also described sexual encounters with Davis but told officials he couldn't recall when the alleged trysts began.

Both boys played for the youth hockey team Beach City Lightning, according to Amormino.

According to the mother of the first alleged victim, Davis, who is divorced, hosted parties at her home and served alcohol to underage team members, Amormino said.

Yartz said he never noticed any "off behavior or loud parties coming from their house."

Another neighbor, who declined to give her name and lives the next block over, said she didn't know Davis but was "freaked out" when she heard the news.

Laguna Niguel Patch attempted to talk with Davis, but an older woman at the house said, "No comment," and slammed the door.
