Laguna Niguel Rape Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

Babak "Bobby" Azadgilani, 26, is accused of raping two women, including an acquaintance in Laguna Beach.

A Laguna Niguel man accused of raping two women pleaded not guilty Monday to several felony charges, court records show.

Babak "Bobby" Azadgilani, 26, pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of rape, one count each of sexual penetration by a foreign object by force, sodomy by force and forcible oral copulation, with sentencing enhancements and allegations of sex crimes against more than one victim and use of a deadly weapon during a sexual assault.

Azadgilani remains behind bars on $2 million bail, records show. He will return to court on Feb. 7 for a pre-trial hearing.

Laguna Beach police announced in May 2013 they were looking for Azadgilani in connection with an April 21 sexual assault. Azadgilani surrendered later that day. After police announced they were looking for Azadgilani, another woman alleged that Azadgilani twice sexually assaulted her, prosecutors said.

Azadgilani is accused of forcing a female acquaintance to have anal sex with him sometime between July and September 2009. The other alleged victim said she saw Azadgilani at Laguna Beach in April 2013, the first time they had seen each other for several years, according to prosecutors. Azadgilani allegedly followed the woman home, despite her telling him repeatedly that she wouldn't invite him inside.

Azadgilani persuaded the woman to let him in her home, where he is accused of raping her. Prosecutors said she immediately called police.

In May 2013 Azadgilani invited the woman whom he allegedly sexually assaulted in 2009 to come to his Laguna Niguel home. The woman confronted Azadgilani about the 2009 anal sex, she said, and said he responded by allegedly pulling a knife on her and raping her.
